QUEENSCLIFF children’s charity Cottage by the Sea have teamed up with a Geelong artist to celebrate a shared love of the local coastline.

Geelong artist Janey Forbes has painted two custom artworks titled I Caught a Wave and I Saw a Fish, which illustrate two activities visiting children to Cottage cherish along this iconic seascape: boogie-boarding and snorkelling.

The original pieces will adorn the walls at Cottage for visiting children to admire, while a digital version will be used to create this year’s Christmas and greeting card collection.

Ms Forbes said the beach out the front of Cottage by the Sea held a meaningful place in her heart.

“My parents live not far from Cottage by the Sea, so we are at this beach all the time. It’s my family’s favourite place to be.

“This beach is very special to my family and I, so these artworks happened very naturally.”

She lauded the work that Cottage do to provide joy, fun and growth to vulnerable children.

“Giving all these kids this opportunity… it’s memories they’ll treasure forever, and for their families.”

Boogie-boarding and snorkelling offer children more than simply a fun experience on Cottage programs.

Cottage by the Sea program manager Sean Dunne said many of the visiting children have never seen the ocean before.

“For many children, it’s their first time in the ocean and these activities are an adventurous way for children to overcome fears in a safe environment, helping them build resilience and leave Cottage with greater confidence.”

The limited-edition Christmas and greeting cards are available to purchase on Cottage’s website and at the charity’s upcoming Annual Fair in January.
