LAUNCH INTO THE LONG WEEKEND

Get the long weekend off to the right start by heading along to Front Beach Taphouse and Restaurant. In addition to enjoying the live music performed by Jesse Reid, check out the gin bar, which offers 29 gins and 12 tonics to choose from for your Friday evening libation. If you’re after a feed, there’s a new menu to peruse too.

ENJOY A MOVIE UNDER THE STARS

After the Australia Day ceremonies have finished, why not head along in your thongs and shorts to the Lorne Country Club, which is presenting The Peak Sunset Cinema from 5pm, attendees will enjoy a screening of The Pirates of the Caribbean – The Curse of The Black Pearl on a big screen under the stars. There’ll be a licensed bar, pre-movie live music and food available, and lawn games for those so inclined. It’s BYO blankets and bean bags, with the screening to start at sunset. Tickets are $12 and are available via eventbrite.com.au.

WATCH THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD RACE

Following the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race People’s Ride and women’s event on the Saturday, the men’s event kicks off on Sunday morning. Take up a spot at many of the viewing locations and cheer sites dotted around Barwon Heads, Torquay, the Surf Coast hinterland and Geelong, and watch some of the world’s best cyclists push themselves to the brink in a race that continues to grow in stature on the world stage and that is a must-see event on the local calendar.
