FAMILIES looking for a festive night out can explore the Surf Coast’s brightest homes, with streets across the region lighting up in the lead-up to Christmas.

The Surf Coast Shire has released an interactive Christmas lights map highlighting this year’s standout displays – from full Griswold-style extravaganzas to cosy, low-key setups – making it easy to plan a local lights trail.

Cr Tony Phelps said visiting Christmas house lights was a much-loved annual tradition.

“I love seeing all the local house light displays – it’s wonderful that people decorate their houses largely for the benefit of others,” he said.

“Christmas lights bring so much joy to our community. They encourage families to get out together, explore our towns and share in the festive atmosphere.”

He also encouraged residents who have decorated their homes to add them to the map.

“We know people put a lot of effort into creating incredible displays,” he said. “If your house is glowing, we’d love to add it so others can enjoy it too.”
