Free sites at Farmer’s Market

December 13, 2018 BY

Café manager and event coordinator Renee Sydney from The Farmer’s Place said this Boxing Day they’re holding an inaugural market where small businesses will be able set up a stall free of charge.

This boxing day, The Farmer’s Place in Freshwater Creek is looking for creative people to take part in their inaugural market and are giving vendors an opportunity to set up a stall free of charge.

Café manager Renee Sydney said they pride themselves on being community orientated and wanted to host an event that gives families somewhere to come and small businesses an opportunity.

“We like to be community orientated, we used to run a monthly farmer’s market on a Sunday with all local
producers but we already stocked a lot of that ourselves,” she said.

“I’m trying to open the door for more local producers and makers of things aside from just food. Creative things like candles, jewellery, macramé, and for those businesses to be able to come along and make some money on Boxing Day.”

At this stage Renee said the event will be from 10am until around 4pm and there will be no charge for a business to come along and set up a stand.

“At this stage I’ve got 12 people already locked in but can go upwards of 25. If they are interested the can contact me to arrange a spot,” she said.

“Our main focus is sustainability, we like to make sure the products they’re using aren’t imported and like to keep it as local as we can.”

Stalls confirmed include a beeswax stand, candle maker, crystals, necklace and jewellery as well as a wellness tent.

“I’ve been approached by a few artists who have asked if they can busk, we’ve arranged a face painter and are currently organising a jumping castle for the kids,” she said.

“The emphasis is that there’s no charge, it’s free for them (businesses) to come and set up because I know it’s a real downer when there is a site fee they have to try and cover.

“I just wanted to create a community event on Boxing Day and have a bit more here than food, we’re going to have a buffet style kind of day where all the food will be cooked outside.”

Renee said she encourages anyone interested to email her at café@ thefarmersplace.com.au or via 0499 333 093.

The Farmer’s Place is located at 675 Anglesea Road, Freshwater Creek.
