Help a family in need this Christmas

Local charity Geelong Mums is calling on the community to support the thousands of babies and children in need this Christmas.

Founded in 2013, Geelong Mums’ volunteers helped rehome $2.2 million worth of nursey items to 6,100 babies and children in 2018.

But the focus this year is different, with the charity seeking monetary donations that will be used to pay for a specific item for a family in need.

Geelong Mums general manager Julia Roache said the theme of this year’s Christmas Appeal was “Share the Joy”.

“At this time of the year Geelong Mums is really busy, however the funding we need to continue helping families in need runs very low which is why we need the community’s support.

“Making a financial donation that will provide essential nursery equipment will bring much needed relief to families in crisis at this time of year. Sadly, for some it might be the only gift they receive.

“Your monetary gift will mean we can get safe cots, prams, car seats and good quality children’s clothing into the homes of families living in uncertain situations in Geelong.”

Donators are encouraged to leave a message of support and well wishes for the family who will receive it.

Geelong Mums works in conjunction with its colleagues at St Kilda Mums and Eureka Mums in Ballarat.

It is a self-funded initiative that depends on the community to continue supporting families in need.
