August 15, 2018 BY

Cape Otway Lightstation will mark its 170th birthday this weekend.

The Cape Otway Lightstation is preparing to dust off its original Fresnel lens so it can be relit for the first time in 20 years in celebration of its 170th birthday this weekend.

Kicking off at 6pm sharp on Saturday August 18, the event is planned to coincide with International Lighthouse Weekend and will allow a limited number of ticket holders access to climb the tower to experience this once-in-a-lifetime viewing opportunity.

Hundreds of visitors are expected to brave the winter elements to enjoy the range of family-friendly activities that are planned, including a bonfire, live music, ghost tours and historic story-telling.

There will be a variety of delicious and locally-sourced food and wine available to purchase.

Entry is free to the general public, but tickets must be reserved in advance online by heading to lightstation.com/you-light-up-my-life.

Visitors are asked to bring warm clothing, a blanket to sit on and a torch.
