Pint-sized fishing enthusiasts converged on the Portarlington Safe Harbour Foreshore at the weekend for the Gone Fishing Day – Hooked on Bellarine. Hosted by the Victorian Fisheries Authority, the event included kids’ activities, market stalls, food and drink park, local music, prize draw and giveaways. There were fishing clinics, casting competitions and demos, and knots and rigs sessions. Bellarine Pirates Angling Club ran “Come & Try Fishing” at the Portarlington Pier, while there were cooking demos demonstrations from MasterChef’s Sam Goodwin. Special guests included VFA Ambassador Bachar Houli, Aaron Habgood, Dr Corey Green – Fish Scientist and Kristina Royter. The National Gone Fishing day is an Australia-wide event during October that is all about celebrating how important fishing is to Australia. It is a great excuse to head out for a fish with family and friends.
