WHILE kites soar in the sky for this year’s Surf Coast Kite Festival, there will be plenty of entertainment on the ground, including from local musicians headlining the festival.

Taking place this Sunday, October 26, the annual event brings community members together in support of Jan Juc Preschool.

All funds raised on the day will go towards special programs and activities for the preschool throughout the year.

Wildlife Xposure will get the onstage entertainment started at 10.40am with an interactive reptile display and presentation.

Headline act, the young rock outfit Chronic Mayhem, will also make its return after its successful performance at last year’s event.

Local talent Jake Hunniford will also be on stage to entertain crowds throughout the day.

Event volunteer Jess Powell said the performers were chosen as a way to support to the region’s local talent.

“We chose Chronic Mayhem because they are local school boys. They go to Bellbrae Primary School and they performed at the Mayfair and we just thought that using local entertainment would be good for the community.

“It was the same with Jake Hunniford. He’s also a local guy and he’s very cruisy and we like his music.”

Students from Jan Jan Preschool will also be getting involved in the event, conducting the Welcome to Country and a short performance.

The Surf Coast Kite Festival will run at Fishermans Beach from 10am until 2pm.
