AFL legend and cycling fanatic Max Gawn will again headline the popular GeelongPort Family Ride to be held on January 30.

The free family only event of the Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, the GeelongPort Family Ride has grown into the leading ride of its kind in Australia with more than 1000 mums, dads, children and even grandparents expected to take on the waterfront section of the circuit the pro’s race on across the weekend.

In even better news for the children, the first 500 to register will receive a free yellow ‘legends’ t-shirt to let the next generation join in the 15 year anniversary celebrations of Cadel’s unforgettable Tour de France victory, something that wasn’t lost on the man himself.

The first 500 children to enter will receive a free yellow legends t-shirt.

“It will be uplifting to see the kids out there riding in yellow with their mums and dads. Hopefully it inspires them to one day chase their own dreams,” he said.

“More importantly though, it just brings a smile to my face to see so many families discovering, or rediscovering, the simple joy of riding a bike together free of devices for an hour or two.”

In addition to the free entry and t-shirts, there will be free entertainment and giveaways on the night with organisers expecting a completely sold-out event.

GeelongPort chief executive, Brett Winter, was similarly positive in what the event offers families.

Max Gawn will headline this year’s GeelongPort Family Ride.

“The free GeelongPort Family Ride is the perfect way for families to share the excitement of the Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road race weekend,” he said.

“GeelongPort is proud to support an event that brings families together and celebrates everything we love about Geelong”.

The GeelongPort Family Ride will take place on Friday, January 30, running from 5.30pm until 7.00pm.
