Mercenary with a mouth makes strong return

June 6, 2018 BY

The mercenary with a mouth is back once more to give hell to the bad guys and his friends alike.

Having settled into the life as a less-than-conventional superhero, Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) gets suddenly struck down by tragedy.

As he struggles to drag himself out of the lowest point in his existence, Deadpool encounters teenage Russell Collins/Firefist (Julian Dennison), a mutant with anger issues and the ability to control fire. Matters get further complicated when the time-travelling, cybernetic soldier Cable (Josh Brolin) comes to town to kill Russell.

Determined to protect the young mutant, Deadpool forms his own team of mutants named X-Force to fight Cable and save Russell.

Surely everything will go smoothly and according plan? Of course not. This is Deadpool we’re talking about.

While I personally found the first film to be more enjoyable, this was still an entertaining film and a worthy sequel.

It had all the blood and raunchy humour you want and expect from a Deadpool movie. A warning for the squeamish though, as the gore can get really vile.

The film did a good job not only building on existing characters, but also on adding in some fresh new ones.

One of my favourite new additions was Domino (Zazie Beetz), whose mutant power of luck was far more cinematic than what would be expected.

Cable was another great addition, as he had a good amount of humour that balanced out well with the more serious and gruff parts of his character.

Other characters who had also appeared in previous X-Men films come back newly re-imagined, notably Juggernaut (also voiced by Ryan Reynolds).

Overall, Deadpool 2 was on-level with its predecessor, being able to mock anything and everything as well as telling its own story.

Definitely worthy of a trip to the cinema.
