Tigers land reigning BPCA premiership captain

THE Torquay Cricket Club has landed one of the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association’s premier players, with reigning premiership captain Dan Donaldson joining the Tigers for the 2026-27 season.

The accomplished leg-spinner and top-order batter arrives from Barwon Heads after captain-coaching the Seagulls to last season’s premiership.

Donaldson also claimed the A1 bowling award after taking 29 wickets at an average of just 10.38 through the 2025-26 season and was named captain in the BPCA team of the year.

New senior coach Daniel Emmerson said Donaldson would be a significant addition both on and off the field.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dan to Torquay Cricket Club,” Emmerson said.

“He’s not only a quality player who will strengthen our side on the field, but also a quality person who will be a great fit for our club culture.

“We’re excited to have him on board and look forward to seeing the impact he’ll make this season.”

Donaldson’s cricket résumé also includes a stint in Alice Springs and experience at the highest level of grade cricket with Mosman in Sydney.

His arrival caps a successful off-season recruiting drive for the Tigers.

The club has also welcomed back star all-rounder Gurpreet Singh after a season with South Barwon, along with former Torquay juniors Jack Macpherson from Alexander Thomson and Jack Young from South Barwon.

After spending last season playing away from home while redevelopment works were completed at Spring Creek Reserve, the Tigers are looking forward to returning to their home ground in 2026-27.

The men’s program will begin preparations for the new season with an information night at 6.30pm on Thursday 30 July at the Spring Creek Reserve clubrooms, before pre-season training begins on 6 August.
