Mission Australia is encouraging those aged between 15 and 19 to complete their 23rd annual survey.

The survey allows young people to share what they think are the key issues and their own personal challenges.

Survey questions will focus on a number of topics including mental health and wellbeing, climate change, personal concerns and more.

Participants will also be asked to suggest solutions to any personal issues they face.

Mission Australia Chief Executive Sharon Callister said the 2024 results will reflect the country’s current reality and is an opportunity for young people to share their thoughts.

“Our young people are living with the existential anxiety of climate change while also navigating a cost-of-living-crisis where housing stress is impacting families.”

“Policymakers, organisations and schools draw on our Youth Survey data when making decisions that impact young people and when determining how best to support them during what can be a challenging time in their lives.”

Last year’s results revealed that the environment, equity and discrimination, the economy and financial matters and mental health were the issues believed to be most important.

The 2023 survey was completed by almost 20,000 Australian’s and showed there was also an increased concern around housing and homelessness compared to previous years.

“Strong levels of participation in Mission Australia’s Youth Survey will ensure the views of young people are comprehensively captured and their voices heard,” Ms Callister said.

“I encourage community groups, schools and sporting organisations to publicise the survey and support young people to get involved.”

The survey is open now until August, with results to be published in November and shared with government and non-government organisations, schools and the public.

The survey can be completed online, either with participating schools or groups, or through mission Australia’s Website: missionaustralia.com.au/youthsurvey
