NEW PAIGE in coastal craft search

August 8, 2018 BY

After years on the road searching for craft classes for daughter Paige, 11 (pictured), Torquay’s Sherryn Evans is rejoicing at the Spring Creek Community House’s Craft Club run by Leonie Sievers every Tuesday.

For the past five years, Sherryn Evans has driven daughter Paige, 11, across the coast searching for craft lessons and now there’s finally lessons close to home.

Ms Evans said since they discovered Leonie Sievers’ Craft Club for tweens at Torquay’s Spring Creek Community House they’ve been blown away by what’s on offer.

“I have an 11-year-old whose passion is craft, we have spent the last five or so years travelling to Geelong and Ocean Grove to undertake classes to fuel this passion,” she said.

“While Torquay certainly has a creative community, there has in the past been limited options here for the local arty/crafty children, and certainly those that have been offered have not been sustained over time.”

Ms Evans said the Craft Club has been an incredible addition to her daughter’s life along with other children who attend.

“Leonie is a qualified teacher with an obvious passion for craft. Her club has been running all year for tweens and involves kids making a different product each week from a range of materials,” she said.

“From handmade flowers, bath bombs, canvas paintings, wire art, clay creations, etc). It is my daughter’s happiest hour of the week due to the products created and the positive atmosphere that Leonie creates.”

Paige said that the club was a fantastic opportunity for people passionate about crafting to come along and learn new techniques and tricks.

“Craft is my favourite thing all week! It’s so much fun. Leonie is amazing! She is so kind. We make different things each week like clay sculptures, paper flowers, latch hooking, even slime,” Paige said.

“I love seeing all the teasers Leonie puts up on Instagram and Facebook about what we will be doing in the next lesson. I encourage any crafty kid to join. Craft club is awesome!”
