Quilters share what they sew

The Bellarine Biennial Quilt Exhibition kicked off last week at the Portarlington Mill, with lots of displays, sales and fundraising. Shae Hunt from the Portarlington and Drysdale Community Bank branches officially opened the event by cutting a ribbon, before the viewing of the quilts started.

Dianne White from the Bellarine Quilting Group said about 60 guests turned out to view quilts of all sizes, art quilts, bags, and table runners made by members. “Positioned throughout the exhibition are Comfort Quilts made by our members that we donate to local charities such as Bethany and Southern Cross Kids Camp,” Ms White said. She said some guests were eager to purchase from the Trading Table and items were snapped up quickly. “Items are for sale including quilts, bags, cushions, table runners, coasters, knitted items and other quilting goodies – come, browse and purchase.” Light refreshments were served at the launch. Official guests included Karen Trewin and Shae Hunt from Portarlington and Drysdale Community Bank branches, Yvonne McAuliffe from Bethany, Karen Harris from Bellarine Community Health, and Sue Palmer from the Geelong Patchwork and Quilt Guild. The exhibition is open every Saturday and Sunday in October from 12pm to 4pm at Turner Court in Portarlington.
