Residents to star in exhibit

October 3, 2018 BY

In conjunction with Seniors Week, residents from Torquay’s Star of the Sea Village will be exhibiting a variety of works, examples are pictured here, in their Community Hall from October 8-13.

From detailed craft pieces to acrylic and water colour paintings, artistic residents at Torquay Star of the Sea Village are putting on an exhibition to coincide with Seniors Week.

The village’s community hall will come alive with works on display from Monday October 8 until October 13, which artist and resident Pauline Shinkfield thinks is an exciting first.

“Star of The Sea Village have several artist and crafts persons participating in this year’s Seniors Week (our first time) and we extend a welcome to visitors to come and see what we are presenting,” Ms Shinkfield said.

“There is a wide variety of things to view with interesting stories behind the exhibits. For example, we have Terry Smith who has produced a wonderful piece of art titled “Painting with Parkinson’s”.

“Also, we are providing light refreshments with tea/coffee for $5. I’m a resident and water colourist artist, there’s about four artists and half a dozen different people sharing craft.”

Ms Shinkfield said some of the pieces would be available to purchase, and that she looked forward to sharing the exhibition with the greater community.

“There will be a notice going out to other residents and people around the church, my family are a bit widespread. People will be able to buy some works, others are for display only or a one-off like Terry’s.”

To see the exhibit head along to Star of the Sea Village located at 1 Headland Drive Torquay.
