Swing dance in September

September 19, 2018 BY

If you’re passionate about swing dancing or want to learn head along to Seaside Swing’s September 29 event where you can take classes, dance and eat to live music.

Seaside Swing is bringing swing dancing back to Torquay, with workshops and events for dancers of all levels including their upcoming extravaganza on Saturday September 29.

Head along to a night filled with classes and social dancing along to live music by Georgia Brooks kicking off at 6pm, dinner is covered with Flatironed serving up a delicious range of New York inspired toasties between 7-10pm.

Swing Dance is an umbrella term used to describe all dances done to jazz music of the 1920s-40s, and classes bring dancers together in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.

Special guest teachers for this event are Tina Rizza, Sean Loughran and Angie Richards.

Tina hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina and has taught, performed, competed and judged in Argentina, Brazil and many countries in Europe.

Sean and Angie are two familiar faces to the Surf Coast and Geelong swing dance community, the duos classes are fun and challenging at the same time.

Angie has been swing dancing for eight years and has learnt from Australian and international greats.

A Geelong local, Sean enjoys filling his time teaching music, swing dance and drums in legions of bands – if you’ve seen a band playing jazz around Geelong and the Surfcoast, there’s a fair chance he was the drummer.

Seaside Swing organisers have been overwhelmed by the support for their recent local events. “Swing dancing is such a feel-good style of dance. We love the sense of community it nurtures, and we are thrilled to be bringing classes back to town. These teachers are world class, so we’re hoping to inspire locals to give dancing a go,” they said.

Classes will take place at 6-9pm at 14 Price St Torquay, prices start at $15.
