TTT reschedules one-act plays

August 1, 2021 BY

Members of the Torquay Theatre Troupe hard at work at rehearsals for the one-act plays.

Torquay Theatre Troupe (TTT) adopted the theatrical mantra that “the show must go on” during the latest lockdown.

There is nothing like a bit of local theatre to brighten the soul, and 11 eager actors have been rehearsing two absorbing one act plays for the annual TTT One Act Play Season, which will be performed in the Shoestring Playhouse at The MAC, the new arts precinct at 77 Beach Road, Torquay.

Well-known TTT member Maryanne Doolan is directing The Knock On The Door, a powerful drama by Bruce Olive, which tells the parallel stories of two families, waiting for loved ones to return from overseas conflicts.

Gladys and Harold wait for news of their 18-year-old son and nearly 100 years later in the same suburban house, Cate waits patiently for the return of her husband.

TTT regulars Lisa Berry and Andrew Gaylard are joined by relative newcomers to TTT Georgie Powell, last seen in Parramatta Girls, and Ben Batterbury, who joined in August for The Bench Plays.

Introverts’ Outings is an original comedy by Geelong-based actor and writer, Sindi Renea. It invites us to witness the first real life meeting of a group of introverts who have been interacting online with a counsellor for some time.

The all-female cast, most of whom are new to TTT, includes Annie Edmonds, Jodie Morzinek, Rose Carollo, Colleen Lawrence, Janelle Polwarth, Mia Droste and Charlotte Polwarth who, under the direction of Katrina Eadie and Stephen Macklin, bring refreshing humour and enthusiasm to the sparkling script. This unusual social gathering is sure to have you laughing away your winter blues.

The production was due to open tomorrow on July 30. However the extended COVID lockdown has forced a reschedule of opening night to August 12 at 8pm with performances on August 13, 20, 21 (all at 8pm) and a matinee on August 22 at 4pm.

These dates are designed to fit around the Anglesea One Act Play Festival, where TTT will also be performing both plays.

Patrons with tickets for July 30, July 31 and August 1 will be offered replacement tickets or a refund if they are unable to attend.

Bookings can be made through TryBooking but patrons are advised to be quick.
