Wave of hair knowledge rolls into Torquay

September 5, 2019 BY

Meet the Kimberley & Co. Torquay team: Owner Kimberley with her colleague Jess at the new Torquay salon on Boston Road.

Melbourne-born hair studio Kimberley & Co. is making waves on the Surf Coast, with the award-winning business now operating on Torquay’s Boston Road.

The salon boasts a coastal vibe that harmonises with the expanding township, offering a luxe experience that’s far more than your average haircut. With the help of Hayden Real Estate, the initial challenge was to find the right location.

Owner Kimberley Nutbean is thrilled with her decision. From humble beginnings as a 15-year-old apprentice to an established businesswoman, Kimberley said it’s been a rewarding and educational learning curve.

“We love the boutique style and (being) personal with our clients. It’s a great space to work in as well, with sufficient parking for customers at rear. Social media has been a huge part of our marketing campaign,” said Kimberley, who’s been hairdressing for 16 years.

“Hard work and ambition have driven this experience. A successful salon these days requires management, accounting and people skills, along with updated product and industry knowledge. It can be tiresome, but I truly enjoy my role.”

Earlier this year, Kimberley travelled to Sydney to attend Hair Expo Australia, where she built on her learning from some of the best hairdressers in the country.

She said she discovered a lot about the management side of the industry, which gave her the confidence she needed to open a second salon in Torquay.

“I will be joined by Jess in our Torquay salon. Having relocated from Queensland, Jess is an accomplished hairdresser with a wealth of knowledge,” Kimberley said.

“Jess and I are enthusiastic about all facets of hairdressing, encouraging our clients to engage in the use of products that promote healthy hair.

“We are both passionate about blondes and balayages and can’t wait to brighten up some coastal clients.

“We believe after-products can strengthen, help retain colour and prevent heat damage from dryers, curlers and tongs – every girls’ best friend these days.”

Kimberley said Wella, Eleven and Muk are her preferred suppliers. She also said Kimberley & Co. can offer Afterpay on services and products to all clients.

“We endeavour to provide a service complimentary to the individual client as we all have different requirements in our busy schedule,” she said.

“My successful Macleod salon (Melbourne) has been open for almost eight years and with the backing of a team of talented hairdressers, I have been able to aspire to my dreams.

“In 2017 we won the Banyule Business Award, a testament to the skills of my staff. We will provide a warm, friendly, professional service.”

Kimberley said she was thrilled to continue the success of her Melbourne salon by offering her services in the 3228.

“My initial experience in our new premises has been highlighted by the friendly clientele.

“I have also been surprised by familiar faces from years past who now reside in the area.”

Kimberley said the salon hoped to target an array of clientele, both young and old, and that they would leave with a smile on their face and ready to book their next appointment.

Kimberley & Co is now open. The salon is located at 5/6-8 Boston Road, Torquay. For more information, visit kimberleyandcohair.com.au or phone 0400 593 878.
