Winch Men’s Shed to be refurbished

October 30, 2017 BY

MORE men in Winchelsea will be building new friendships, skills and community connections, thanks to a state government grant for a refurbished men’s shed.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced the Winchelsea Men’s Shed in Hesse Street would receive $12,000 towards the muchneeded refurbishment of the shed.

Supported by the Winchelsea Community House, the Winchelsea Men’s Shed provides an opportunity for men to work on common projects such as woodwork, making children’s toys, as well as repairing community facilities.

“Men’s sheds play a vital role in local communities – I’m delighted the Andrews Labor Government is investing in a refurbished men’s shed for Winchelsea,” Ms Tierney said.

“The refurbished shed will give the men in Winchelsea a relaxed place to come together, to talk, to share experiences and to have a go at learning new skills and taking part in new projects.

“I encourage everyone in the community to support the Winchelsea Men’s Shed and check out their new refurbished home once it’s finished.”

New men’s sheds will be built in 13 communities, while nine others will be refurbished, thanks to almost $1 million in grants.

Each project – three in metropolitan Melbourne and 20 in regional Victoria – is the result of extensive community consultation and has a plan to build strong partnerships with other organisations.

The 2017-18 funding has focussed on projects from disadvantaged communities and areas that were experiencing significant economic and social change.

Men’s Sheds are safe and practical places for locals to meet, make social connections and actively participate in their communities.

They also promote social inclusion and enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of their members.
