2017 goes out with a bang

January 4, 2018 BY

THE Surf Coast Shire locals and visitors celebrated the New Year with a bang with fireworks in both Lorne and Torquay on New Year’s Eve.

The Lorne foreshore had displays at 9.30pm and midnight, while Torquay had fireworks, at 10pm, which were seen from locations that had a view of the skies above Torquay surf beach.

Surf Coast Shire mayor David Bell watched the fireworks from the RACV lounge and although spectacular, was disappointed with dog owners.

“It’s known that dogs should be kept inside during firework displays, possibly in the laundry,” Cr Bell said.

“I heard many dogs barking outside, which was disappointing.

“It was a very quiet New Year’s Eve, though, with most people behaving and not too much mischief occurring.”

Anyone missing a dog should visit their local vet clinics or the Geelong Animal Welfare Society.

The Torquay Hotel held its own New Year’s Eve entertainment too, with more than 600 people walking through their doors during the course of the celebrations to hear performances from DJ Moby Disc and Mister Meaner.
