Anglesea hosts busy weekend of racing on land and sea
A PAIR of popular Anglesea sporting events wrapped up smoothly before the New Year, drawing thousands of participants to the coast across a busy weekend.
The Roo Run and Rock2Ramp were held on successive days in late December, offering athletes of all ages and abilities the chance to compete on land and in the water.

Close to 1,000 competitors turned out for the Roo Run on December 27, with with races held across three distances: the 8km, 4km and the Grommets Gallop 1.6km event.
Will Lewis and Sarah Howe claimed the marquee 8km titles, while Pip Harper and Jake Reed finished on top in the 4km races.
The Grommets Gallop was won by Hugh Chivers and Jessica Martinez.
The following day saw the third-highest attendance recorded for the Rock2Ramp, with 1,120 swimmers lining up on Anglesea Main Beach.
The 30th edition of the event featured three swim distances, with Matthew Gilling and Dakoda Mathers completing a double by winning both the 1.2km and 2.5km races. Edward Pollard and Mia Clements claimed honours in the 600m dash.

Rock2Ramp race director, Tom Cullen, said conditions were favourable for most of the day.
“It was an absolutely terrific day for our 30th edition of the event.
“The wind chopped it up a bit for the first few races, before it cleared up – but you can get anything in ocean swimming.
“It was fantastic to see such a great spread of ages competing in the event, and pleasingly 30 per cent of the field were first-timers to the event.

This holds us in great stead for the future.”
