AN ANGLESEA resident has lost all his hair and beard and raised a whopping $2,900 for Anglesea and Aireys Foodlink.

Phil Robbins bared it all at the Anglesea Bowls Club last week in front of a crowd of more than 50 people.

Top bidders in a raffle had the honour of shaving his beard off, before a $1,000 donation from bowls club president Ben Coyle saw Mr Robbins also lose his long silver locks.

Mr Robbins said he was a conduit of the community’s generosity and hoped the funds would help to make a difference to those in need.

“I’m so thankful to the community for their amazing support, and for those who came and witnessed the shave last week,” he said.

“I started growing my beard and my locks over two years ago, and before too long, I went from a crew cut, to a heavy beard and long hair.

“I thought getting rid of it all would be a fantastic way to generate some funds for charity.

“I couldn’t be happier to be honest. Foodlink is just an amazing organisation and I’m so thankful this will help them out.”

Anglesea and Aireys Foodlink volunteer Margaret Renkin said the group was overwhelmed with Mr Robbins’ gesture.

“We are absolutely thrilled and thank Phil and the Bowls Club for their support.

“The old story of people thinking the area is affluent enough to not need support, is certainly not true.

“Phil’s gesture will mean we won’t have to ask our community for money, allowing us to get more non-perishables items and food vouchers to those in need.

“It’s a huge weight off both their and our shoulders so we are very grateful.”Mr Robbins had grown his beard and long hair for two years before shaving it for charity. Photos: SUPPLIED.
