THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is seeking community input on the design of a new access ramp at Marengo Beach.

Engagement began on Monday last week with the launch of an online survey, and two in-person sessions will follow in the next week.

The Marengo ramp is an important access point for community and visitors to the rock shelf and beach at the southern end of Mounts Bay.

It has provided access for many years but is now due for replacement to address safety concerns and the evolving needs of its users.

Due to its location on the coastline, the ramp has been prone to coastal hazards and is facing ongoing challenges from scouring and sand loss.

Its timber elements have deteriorated and require frequent maintenance, while other bolts and fixings have rusted and reached the end of their life.

The authority will be at the Apollo Bay Community Market tomorrow (Saturday, November 30) from 8.30am to 1pm, and run a second consultation at the existing Marengo ramp on Wednesday, December 4.

Following feedback, construction of the new ramp is expected to begin in 2025.

The online survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.
