Auto fans get their motors running at show

The Torquay Motor Show had more than 400 entrants.

THE latest instalment of the Torquay Rotary Motor Show revved up on Sunday.

The annual event drew more than 400 cars and motorcycles and a big crowd of spectators to Elephant Walk.

Ros and Barry Smith’s 1932 Confederate Roadster was judged not only the best pre-1939 car at the event, but also the overall winner.

Other winners in the 26 classes included:

  • Best Ford – Dorothy and Ronnie Cremona’s 1967 Mustang Fastback
  • Best Holden – John Lawry’s 2017 Commodore VF II
  • Best Volkswagen – Gillian Gilbert’s 1958 Type 1 Beetle
  • Best Alternative Fuel Car – Robert Doig’s 1986 Suzuki Mighty Boy
  • Best Unrestored/Original – David Clarke’s 1929 Ford A
  • Best Surf Vehicle (with surfboard) – Mark Reilly’s 1954 Ford Customline
  • Best Tradie’s Ute (with tools) – Jardan Sewell’s 2004 Mazda Bravo
  • Best Motorcycle (pre-1975) – Phil Evans’ 1961 Moto Guzzi Stormelle Sport 125CC
  • Best Motorcycle (post-1975) – Brett Beecham’s 1986 Suzuki RG500

Organisers said the early amount raised from vehicle entries and spectators was close to $20,000, with takings including the barbecue, raffle ticket sales, vendors and sponsorship still to be included.

Proceeds from the event will be used for local, national and international Rotary Health projects.
