Three Torquay fighters had successful bouts at professional MMA event Roots: Rock and Stone in Melbourne this past weekend, walking away with strong victories and a draw.

WBC Amazing Muay Thai World Festival champion Billy O’Brien and 19-year-old Ki Young featured on a pro card for the first time in their career at the Melbourne Pavillion.

Young stayed calm and collected on debut, showing off incredible speed and accuracy.

He established a left kick early in the fight, before performing some huge moments including a flying left kick.

His performance was enough to defeat fellow Australian Danny Cassar by decision.

O’Brien started very strong in his bout and was in control before he was kicked hard in the vicinity of an injury sustained during camp.

Unfortunately, his injuries were enough to stop the fight.

Fresh off an intensive training program in Torquay, New Zealand IKBF 63.5kg super lightweight champion Alex Sorensen was also in action.

Sorenson was in the fight of the night against Strike Studio punisher Quang Pham and brought it home to secure victory.

The Kiwi champion was rattled by a big punch in the first round but fought back to score a knockdown with a perfectly placed elbow.

In the second round, he sustained a large cut above his eye, which the doctor came close to stopping the action over.

However, it was not enough to bring Sorenson down and minutes later he executed a beautiful left knee to knock out his opponent.

Bones MMA head coach and director Matt Williams said he was very proud of the trio’s efforts.

“All the guys showed incredible strength to get themselves off the mat and fight really well.

“Ki and Billy were awesome on debut and Alex just showed us what he’s got. We are stoked with the result.
