Men charged after alleged $50k jewellery burglary spree

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two men over string of burglaries in Geelong West.

Two men have been charged over a string of burglaries in Geelong West resulting in the alleged loss of around $50,000 worth of jewellery.

The 28- and 44-year-old men are alleged to have accessed businesses across Hope, Pakington and Weller Street on the mornings between 9 and 15 July.

The two men were arrested on Wednesday, with Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives seizing several item alleged to be stolen from several businesses, including jewellery, cash, drugs, iPhones and hairdressing and barber tools.

The 28-year-old Geelong man was charged with attempted burglary, five accounts of burglary and five accounts of criminal damage and is expected to appear before Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The 44-year-old has been charged with handling stolen goods and drug and weapon offences.

He was put on bail and will appear before the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on 4 September.
