MORE households in Anglesea and Aireys Inlet will receive food support following the success of the Anglesea Bowls Twilight League.
The fundraising initiative at the Anglesea Bowling Club raised $3,300 for Anglesea & Aireys Foodlink, providing a timely boost to the volunteer-run organisation.
The Anglesea Bowling Club, in partnership with Great Ocean Road Estate Estate, ran the twilight competition across five weeks in the spring of last year.
Proceeds from event entry, raffle prizes and auctions have been donated to Foodlink, which operates without government funding and relies entirely on local support.
The local food relief service supports families with growing children, single residents and those navigating illness or rising living costs with fortnightly food parcels containing pantry staples, toiletries and pet food, as well as vouchers for local businesses including IGA, Stabby’s Butcher and Anglesea Fruits.
About 20 dedicated volunteers quietly keep the service running, helping to pack, deliver and respond when someone reaches out for help.
The $3,300 donation was delivered to Foodlink last week. To thank the organisation for its support, Foodlink’s Tracey Lowry also presented Great Ocean Road Real Estate’s Paula Fowler with a certificate of appreciation.
“It’s a privilege to support an organisation that reflects the heart of our community,” Fowler said.
“I feel incredibly grateful to be part of this, and even more grateful to live and work in a town where people genuinely show up for one another.”
Foodlink and Great Ocean Road Real Estate encourage community members to contribute to the Foodlink collection box at IGA. Any groceries or donations are welcome.
