Building safer, more efficient roads

OUR community’s insights have been instrumental in shaping upcoming upgrades to Ghazeepore Road in Waurn Ponds.

Informed by community consultation, our updated plans will address the issues identified, with works scheduled to commence in late spring.

The key concerns raised included difficulties turning onto Ghazeepore Road from Hams Road, safety at the Monterey Street intersection, traffic volume and buses blocking traffic.

A new roundabout at Ghazeepore and Hams roads has been delivered and is already easing some of the initial concerns raised.

The Hams Road Estate developers contributed $500,000 to assist with this upgrade.

These funds will also be used to deliver indented (off-road) bus bays and parking bays, pedestrian refuges at key locations and new footpaths to fill missing links.

We plan to deliver another roundabout with pedestrian refuges at the Monterey Drive and Ghazeepore Road intersection supported by $310,000 in funding from the Victorian government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.

The bus stop near this roundabout, and all bus stops along Ghazeepore Road, will be completely indented to improve sightlines of vehicles exiting side streets while also supporting traffic flow.

Indented parking bays will mean residents will no longer need to park their cars on nature strips.

In conjunction with a new 50km/h speed limit, these upgrades will improve accessibility and safety for all road users.

Classified as a ‘collector road’, Ghazeepore Road is designed to accommodate higher volumes of traffic compared to typical residential streets.

Our team anticipates these changes will reduce traffic and improve the safety of pedestrians on Ghazeepore Road.

The installation of variable messaging signage will also be considered to remind drivers of speed limits on this stretch of road.

Elsewhere in Waurn Ponds, works on Rossack Drive’s southbound lane are now complete, with that side of the road now open to the public.

Works on the northbound lane will commence later this year, giving residents a breather from the roadworks while we commence the first phase of the Ghazeepore Road project.

Our team aims to have the works at Rossack Drive finalised later this year to minimise the impacts to traffic in the peak holiday period.

Once complete, Rossack Drive will provide an upgraded connection between Waurn Ponds Station and nearby shopping precincts.

Both the Ghazeepore Road and Rossack Drive projects demonstrate our commitment to providing safer and more efficient routes for Waurn Ponds residents and all who travel our roads.

I am confident that these improvements will significantly address community concerns and enhance road safety for everyone.
