THE next edition of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (CEGORR) is drawing closer, with the race’s founder leading a training ride with some dedicated participants in the People’s Ride.

Evans visited the Geelong Waterfront on Tuesday this week to have a chat to and click through the gears with 10 riders who have saddled up for every People’s Ride event since 2015.

The 2024 People’s Ride, sponsored by TAC, will be the eighth time the mass-participation ride has been conducted and it remains a key part of the overall CEGORR event.

With 113km and 59km course options available, cyclists inspired by the feats of the pros are encouraged to find their own greatness and pedal the world-famous roads on January 27.

Evans, Australia’s only Tour De France winner, is again saddling up for the People’s Ride in 2024 and said he was happy to take advantage of this week’s pleasant conditions.

“There’s no better time to make use of warmer weather and start training for the summer

“Since its inception in 2015, the TAC People’s Ride has always been about people of all ages and abilities enjoying time on the bike together and I’m excited to continue that spirit into 2024.”

Seven-time People’s Ride participant Michelle Clarkson was among those who took part in Tuesday’s training ride.

“I love coming down with my sister and our friends, it’s just a great weekend riding with the girls,” she said.

“It’s such a wonderful opportunity to ride on the same roads as the pros with Cadel – we look forward to it every year!”
