ENTRIES are open for a Surf Coast calendar competition that will see 13 outstanding entries feature on walls across the shire.

Surf Coast Shire Council opened the community arts calendar contest on Monday (August 22), which is open to local residents and ratepayers.

All submitted artworks will be on display as part of an exhibition at Anglesea Art Space in October.

Judges will pick their 12 favourite pieces across three categories – open, installed sculptural and child/youth – that will feature for a month in next year’s calendar.

A people’s choice vote will determine the cover artwork.

Mayor Libby Stapleton encouraged locals to submit their entries and said she looked forward to seeing the exhibition at Anglesea later in the year.

“The annual competition offers an invaluable opportunity for local artists to gain incredible exposure, as the calendar is shared far and wide,” Cr Stapleton said.

“From homes to cafes to workplaces – it’s always a thrill to see the calendar hanging at so many different locations, and I’m sure it’s an even bigger thrill for the artists to see their own work feature in such a widely-distributed publication.

“On the back of a successful Surf Coast Arts Trail, the calendar competition and the exhibition are helping us towards our goal to acknowledge the value of arts and creativity, and to nurture their growth.”

Entries are open until September 18.
