GEELONG have added to their midfield and backline stocks with their three pick’s in this week’s AFLW Draft, whilst a father-daughter from the Geelong Falcons had her draft dreams come true.
The Cats had picks 11, 27 and 43 and took Evie Cowcher, Priya Bowering and Renee Morgan.
Cowcher hails from the Peel Thunder in Western Australia.
She is a high-flying intercept defender who impressed in her junior career with her athleticism and play-reading abilities.
An injury limited her top-age year, but Cowcher was an All-Australian at under-16 and under-18 level and also took out her state’s MVP award in both age groups.
Taken with pick 27, Bowering joins Geelong from the Tasmania Devils and is a powerful midfielder with a high football IQ.
The Lauderdale product dominated for the Allies at this year’s National Championships, averaging 19.5 disposals, 4.2 clearances and five tackles a game to earn herself the state MVP award and All-Australian honours.
Morgan comes from South Fremantle and is a strong two-way midfielder with skilful ability on both sides of her body.
The West Australian averaged a consistent 16.9 disposals and 8.1 tackles for the Bulldogs, then averaged 18.5 touches at the National Championships, indicating her impactful ability.
Later in the draft, Brisbane selected Falcons tall Meg Lappin, daughter of Lions legend Nigel Lappin.
Meg Lappin is a versatile key position player who possesses impressive athleticism and can make an impact at either end of the ground.
She follows in the footsteps of her father, who is currently an assistant at Geelong and won three premierships with the Lions to become an Australian Football Hall of Famer.
