Celebrate Christmas with Denis Walter

November 24, 2023 BY

Carols By The Bay has been popular with the community since it was first run in 1997.

DENIS Walter Carols By The Bay began in 1997 and was immediately embraced by the local community and beyond, and continues to be a highly popular annual event loved by many.

Celebrating all things Christmas, the free event is an uplifting concert presented at Eastern Beach Reserve.

“One of the things that’s been there right through has been support from the City of Greater Geelong – that was initially something that was very important, and Geelong Major Events, at that time, thought that the concept was right,” Walter said.

“Obviously, it has been, because it’s just the most beautiful setting.

“The stage backs onto Corio Bay so people sit up in the natural amphitheatre – it’s the perfect setting – and probably, there should have been a Christmas-type event there decades before I wanted to

do it!”

This year’s event will welcome renowned singer and actor Frankie J. Holden, who promises to rock and roll the night away, as a special guest.

“Frankie J. will be rocking Eastern Beach,” Walter said.

There will also be local star Kim Cooper, musical director Michael Cristiano and award-winning children’s group Team Dream, as well as a visit from Santa.

“It’s going to be a celebration, and it’s a pretty contemporary event,” Walter said.

“We do the carols, of course, but I think a little bit of rock and roll isn’t a bad thing.”

As always, Walter will host the event, which will conclude at 9.30pm, followed by a giant fireworks display.

“You’ll not only experience a teriffic Christmas show, but you’ll also experience that wonderful feeling of welcoming the season and community spirit, and that’s the most exciting thing of all,” he said.

2023 marks the second year Community Care Chemist is acknowledged as the naming rights sponsor, and the business is celebrating 125 years of service to the Geelong community.

Walter said the event would not have lasted this long without the strong and lengthy support of its many sponsors.

“Channel 9 got involved at the start and they’ve been involved ever since, 3AW’s been involved, and some of our supporters such as Jayco have been with us for the entire 25 times we’ve hosted the event.”

Denis Walter Carols By The Bay will be held at Eastern Beach Reserve, Geelong on December 2 from 8-9.30pm. Head to carolsbythebaygeelong.com.au
