THE holiday season is upon us and in what’s universally known as a stressful time for many, local artists and craftspeople are hoping to ease the angst that comes with buying gifts to wrap and pop underneath the Christmas tree.

The Aireys Inlet Market – which is being held on Sunday November 18 – will feature 60 stalls of handmade, homegrown, vintage and recycled products, offering marketgoers a unique selection of the region’s best arts, crafts and local produce.

Catering to all demographics, the market offers shoppers exclusive access to a wide range of special gift ideas for Christmas, as well as an excuse to adventure down to the coastline.

“We have everything from spectacular hot iron metal sculptures and handcrafted wooden furniture, to intricate hand-sewn cushions, homespun wool and beautiful macrame,” said market organiser Libby Stapleton.

“For something really different, there’s wearable art, bright and vibrant floor rugs made from recycled cotton, or bespoke silver and copper jewellery.

Customers are loving the gorgeous ceramic ‘travel cups’ featuring the Aireys Inlet lighthouse, made by one of our newest stallholders, Mary Valcanis.

“People can even make up their own Christmas hampers, starting with one of Murray Rowland’s handwoven baskets and filling it with a selection of beautiful local produce, such as olive oil, honey, nuts, wine, muesli, chutney, jams, tea, coffee, and more,” she said.

The next Aireys Inlet Market is on this Sunday from 9am to 1pm at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall, 6 Great Ocean Road, Aireys Inlet.
