Community funding secures Lorne fireworks
FIREWORKS will go ahead in Lorne this New Year’s Eve, following an outpouring of support from local businesses and community members.
Close to $25,000 has been raised by the Committee for Lorne (CfL) over the past two months to get two shows – one at 9.30pm and one at midnight – off the ground and into the sky.
Significant support was pledged by the Lorne Aquatic Club, Mantra Lorne, Lorne Op Shop, Great Ocean Road Real Estate and the Grand Pacific Hotel.
The committee says the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is also supportive of the initiative.
Committee for Lorne deputy chair, Pete Spring, said the level of community support had exceeded expectations, especially amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
“We are thrilled that it’s going ahead with the amazing support of our community. This is the third time we’ve organised it and it continues to be a great way of bringing people together. It seems the community is right behind it.”
The fireworks will be launched from the Lorne Pier at 9.30pm and midnight.
