DEAKIN University is set to celebrate its largest ever graduating class with more than 4,400 students participating in graduation ceremonies from February 13-22 at the Geelong Waterfront Campus.

This milestone event marks a significant achievement for the university and its students across a wide range of disciplines.

The ceremonies, which are among the most important events on Deakin’s calendar, will see graduates from faculties including medicine, engineering, teaching, creative arts, law, and many others receive their degrees.

More than 7,000 students will graduate this period, with an additional 2,788 graduating in absentia.

With more than 10,500 friends and family expected to attend, the Waterfront campus will host more than 15,000 visitors, offering photo opportunities and over 10,000 Deakin cupcakes to celebrate the occasion.

Deakin vice-chancellor Professor Iain Martin said the celebrations are a significant milestone for the students.

“It represents the culmination of years of academic pursuit, personal growth, and perseverance,” Professor Martin said.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each graduate and commend them for their resilience, determination, and commitment to excellence.

“As they transition from students to alumni, I am confident that they will continue to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.”

The ceremonies will feature student addresses and special guest speakers, including Geelong Cats chief executive officer Steve Hocking and Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan.

Deakin will also confer honorary doctorates to Lisa Neville for her public leadership, Dr Bryan Keon-Cohen for his service to law and society, and Professor Mukti Kanta Mishra for his educational achievements and contributions to Deakin’s partnerships in India.
