ENTRIES are open for one of Australia’s largest open water events, the Danger Ocean Swim Series on the Surf Coast.

The Danger Ocean Swim Series will return on January 6, 2024, at Point Danger on Torquay Front Beach.

The event has been a major fundraiser for the Jan Juc SLSC since 1999 and has raised money for junior development, lifesaving services and equipment.

The swim offers a range of distances including 500m, 1000m, 2.5km and 5km races.

A Danger Dash wade event is also held for children aged 6-12 years.

Jan Juc SLSC president, Brett Thompson said the club was excited to be bringing the popular event back to the Surf Coast.

“The event is a major fundraiser for the club and raises important funds to keep our life saving services on the beach,” he said.

“In 2023, we had over 1000 swimmers on the day, and we hope to have even more swimmers in the water in 2024.

“Our hard-working volunteers do a great job in delivering the event and providing water safety.

“We can’t wait!”

Among those competing will be former international Peruvian swimmer Alexandra Cateriano, who now resides on the Surf Coast.

Ms Cateriano is a former 5km Danger Ocean Swim Series champion and is looking to take home a second title.

“It’s my absolute favourite spot to swim, so I’m looking forward to it,” she said.

“We’ve been swimming from Torquay Front Beach to The Gap lately to prepare for the race. Its 5.5km total.

“I’m really excited for the event. It would be amazing to win the event again after taking it out in 2022.”

The 2.5km and 5km swims will commence at 9am and be followed by the 500m and 1000m main event at 11am and 11.30am respectively.
