January 18, 2018 BY

THE national Ocean6 Series came to Fairhaven last weekend, with the beach hosting round four of the premier surf sports carnival.

The one-day event on January 14 followed the Surf Coast Times Jim Wall Ironman on January 12 at Torquay SLSC, which was held as a qualification for the Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman finals.

Shannon Eckstein (Northcliffe) won the Ironman race, ahead of Alistair Day (Surfers Paradise) and Kendrick Louis (Manly). Despite finishing second, Day is well out in front on the Ironman leaderboard, 59 points clear of fellow Surfers Paradise member Trevor Hendy.

In the Ironwoman, from Ocean Grove surf lifesaver Harriet Brown (Northcliffe) stormed home to win and stay 70 points in front of her rivals, with Jordan Mercer (Noosa Heads) and Lizzie Wellborn (North Bondi) finishing second and third respectively.

As well as the Ironman and Ironwoman, competitors in the Ocean6 Series also take part in board, swim, surf ski, taplin and beach flag races.

The next Ocean6 Series event will be held at Surfers Paradise on February 3-4.
