TORQUAY played host to Victoria’s top Ultimate Frisbee players on the weekend in a state championships event.

The 2023 Victorian Mixed Ultimate Championships brought about 320 players across 19 teams to Banyul-Warri Fields for two days of competition.

Chilly and Ballarat teams got toe-to-toe.

Melbourne teams dominated matches and took out most top positions, but the tournament had participation from Geelong, Ballarat and as far away as Tasmania.

The annual event is the culmination of Ultimate Victoria’s mixed gender season that runs during winter and summer, with players to pivot to single-gender competitions during the warmer months.

The top six teams from the weekend’s play will move on to the national championships in October: Chilly A (Kooyong), Ballarat Ultimate, Geriatrics (Malvern), Kelvin’s Angles (Melbourne University), Maroondah Ultimate Club and Oblivion (Hawthorn).

Ultimate Victoria general manager Simon Talbot said the organisation enjoyed a successful event on the weekend after returning its state championships to Torquay again this year.

“It’s proved to be very popular destination.

“All teams love coming to Torquay and the weather turned it on for us.

“Everyone had a great time and loves visiting the town.”
