AN INNOVATIVE new technology is taking on weeds across bushlands, parks and the coast without chemicals using steam weed machinery.

Otway Environmental owner Troy Fynmore said his business was not your standard natural resource management company, with their steam systems ensuring they killed weeds without having to use chemicals.

“Our steam systems use the latest technology to heat water to 120 degrees through a diesel boiler, and with our various applicator heads we can instantly kill all herbaceous weeds, chemical free.

“Natural assets such as bush lands, parks and coast lines deserve holistic management to help safeguard the ecology throughout it, supporting and encouraging best use practices.

“In addition to this, public space and amenities such as footpaths, garden beds, schools, community gardens can be managed chemical free.”

Mr Fynmore said his business – which provides steaming, revegetation, land planning and management services across greater the Geelong, Surf Coast, Colac, Otways and Corangamite – was ideal for chemically sensitive areas such as near waterways, around schools, playgrounds, habitat areas, parks and private residences.

“The public can be reassured that there will no impact to people or the environment.

“Managing our environment to help it thrive is crucial for biodiversity, habitat, ecology, primary producers, locals, and the ever-growing tourist trade.

“To be able to do this without the need of chemicals is crucial, not only for the public and users but also for the above mentioned.”

Mr Fynmore said the innovative new practice ensured healthy soil biology, microbes and nutrients by not using harsh chemicals.

“To be no threat to the public, our employees and the environment while using steam to manage weeds is without doubt best practice within the industry, and being able to pioneer it in Victoria is extremely exciting.”
