THE Geelong branch of the Toastmasters is preparing for a double celebration later this month, returning to in-person gatherings and also racking up their 700th meeting.

The club has been holding virtual meetings for the past 12 months because of COVID-19 restrictions but will return to its usual bi-monthly format in Geelong West on Monday, April 19.

The meeting will be the 700th time that members of the Geelong Toastmasters community have created a supportive and welcoming environment to help individuals in all avenues of life to develop their public speaking and leadership skills.

Geelong Toastmasters is inviting people to join them for a night of celebratory prepared speeches and impromptu speaking.

The club is part of the Toastmasters International organisation, and uses the standard Toastmasters International meeting format and educational materials.

Meetings are usually attended by 15-20 members, who come from different professional backgrounds and there is a mix of age and gender. There is also a mix in members’ level of speaking skill, from some who are very accomplished to those who are complete novices.

Regardless of skill level, all members are encouraged and supported to improve. Members must be over 18. Although the focus is on learning communication and leadership skills, meetings are friendly and enjoyable.

The 700th meeting of the Geeelong Toastmasters Club will be held at the Geelong West Town Hall, 153 Pakington Street, on April 19 from 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

If you can’t make it for the double celebration, the Geelong Toastmasters holds regular club meetings at the same time and same location on the first and third Monday of every month.
