Geelong university students making a difference

TWO Geelong Deakin University students are teaming up to raise funds for an Australian organisation which advocates for girl’s education in Sierra Leone and Uganda.

This month, students Samantha Aver and Lily Thornley have chosen to campaign for One Girl – Do It In A Dress, a not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne.

Founded in April 2009, One Girl works in partnership with Do It In A Dress to provide young girls living in some of the world’s poorest communities access to an education by offering philanthropic support.

With over 130 million girls around the world denied an education, both Samantha and Lily feel passionately about making a difference by participating in the challenge.

“One Girl raises much needed funds to give girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda access to an education,” the students said.

“Throughout November, we will be collecting as many donations as possible and teaming up with local businesses to host events to raise money.”

At the conclusion of their fundraising, Sammy and Lily will each go skydiving clothed in a school dress provided by Do It In A Dress to raise awareness.
