AN INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed Geelong photographer has been lauded for decades of dedication to the local music industry and awarded a prestigious music prize.

Lucinda Goodwin was awarded the Ross Lipson Award last week at the Queenscliff Music Festival in recognition of her commitment to supporting and developing the arts sector.

The Ross Lipson Award is a joint initiative of the Sweethearts Foundation and Queenscliff Music Festival and named after trailblazing musical icon Ross Lipson who started the Sweethearts group.

Ms Goodwin said it was incredibly special to accept the award from Mr Lipson’s wife and daughter on Sunday at the festival.

“I was so honoured to be recognised alongside many who do so much for this incredible industry, and champion females in a sector that can be really difficult to navigate because of gender.

“The music industry is still very male dominated, so it’s just so special to get an award of this nature.

“I’ve been shooting and volunteering at Queenscliff Music Festival since I was 17 and the festival was actually my introduction to live music!

“Ultimately it was the catalyst for me pursuing a career in the music industry, which 14 years later I can confidently say I’ve done.”

The award capped off a fantastic year for Ms Goodwin, who has held multiple solo exhibitions, received national award nominations, sold international merch and launched a new musical zine which details more than a decade of her work.

“It [the award] came at a really nice time! It’s been an incredibly busy year,” she added.

“I’ve been lucky enough to cover heaps of cool exhibitions and cool shows, and recently also get nominated for an Australian Women in Music Award as well.

“I’m really riding the wave of freelance work at the moment and have my eye on working with more fantastic people in the near future.

“I also hope to do some touring at some point.”
