COMMUNITY event organisers will have easier access to grant applications following a process review.

The Surf Coast Shire has opened its next round of community event grant applications, with organisers to expect a more user-friendly experience.

The grants have now been split into two categories – major and special events, and community events – making it easier for community grant applicants to progress through the process.

Cr Phoebe Crockett encouraged event organisers to consider how the grant program could benefit them.

Events are an essential part of the region’s economy and bringing large-scale events to the area outside of high summer is critical.

“The Surf Coast is one of Australia’s top events destinations,” Cr Crockett said.

“Each year we host more than 200 events that deliver incredible benefits, including bringing people together and showcasing our stunning natural environment.

“All events play a valuable role in supporting our local communities, however the grants focus on events held outside of that busy summer period and the Easter long weekend.

“They attract visitors to the Surf Coast and generate overnight stays in a traditionally quieter period, aligning with our goal that tourism supports local communities and delivers more consistent economic and social benefits year-round.”

The shire is accepting major and special event grant applications, including multi-year grants for eligible events.

Major and special events can receive funding of up to $10,000, while community events may be eligible for up to $3,000 in grant funds.

Community event applications will open in April.
