AUSTRALIA’S best junior surfers are heading to Jan Juc this weekend to compete in the 2019 Rip Curl GromSearch.

The series contains six separate divisions, with under 16, 14 and 12 categories for boys and girls.

GromSearch has a rich history, with former winners including Gabriel Medina, Felipe Toledo, and Australia’s own Sally Fitzgibbons and Tyler and Owen Wright.

Tyler Wright, who has twice won the World Surfing League’s Women’s World Championship, said she had good memories of the series.

“It was such a cool opportunity to get to compete in different areas around Australia at such young age.”

The events will take place from Saturday, September 21 to Monday, September 23.

Jan Juc is the first of four locations the series goes to, with the others being Newcastle in New South Wales, Yorke Peninsula in South Australia and the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

Each event will contribute points to surfers’ GromSearch National ranking.

After the Queensland event, the top-ranked surfers in their respective divisions then qualify for the final, where they get a chance to become Australian GromSearch Champion.

The final is held in Woonona in New South Wales.
