Ocean Grove will begin the search for a new leadership for 2027 after confirming its first-grade coaches will step down at the end of the season.

President Greg Mervin announced on Friday the club would call for expressions of interest for the senior coaching role.

Co-coaches Dave Farrell and Nick Bourke will not renew their positions. They stepped into the role in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

The announcement comes during another challenging season for the Grubbers, who sit 10th on the Bellarine Football Netball League ladder with six rounds remaining.

“Both Dave and Nick have invested significantly in every one of our players who have been involved in the program,” Mervin said in a statement.

“The care and development provided to each player over the past three and a half seasons has been of the highest level.

“This will continue for the remaining six rounds of the 2026 season as Dave and Nick are committed to finishing the season strongly.”

Mervin thanked both coaches for their commitment and acknowledged the impact the roles had on their families.

Expressions of interest for the vacant position are expected to open soon, although the club is yet to announce a date.

Farrell and Bourke will remain in charge for the rest of the season, with Mervin asking members to respect the coaches and club as they navigate the transition.

“We remain focused on continuing to build a strong, sustainable and successful football program, whilst fostering a culture that reflects the values of the Ocean Grove community,” Mervin said.

Ocean Grove hosts Torquay this weekend as it searches for its fourth win of the season.
