The Give Where You Live Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal, running from Monday, October 16 to October 22, is calling on everyone to help make sure nobody in the community goes hungry.

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact individuals and families, demand for food relief across the community continues to increase.

During the Feed Geelong Appeal, the Give Where You Live Foundation will release its latest ‘Food For Thought’ research report, exploring the demand and challenges facing the food relief sector in the G21 region.

Give Where You Live CEO, Bill Mithen said the findings in the latest ‘Food For Thought’ report highlight the importance of the Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal.

“The Foundation’s latest Food for Thought reveals that demand for food relief services in the G21 region has surged and is expected to continue rising.

“Now more than ever, we need the people of Geelong to come together to raise funds for the Feed Geelong Appeal, to help make sure nobody in our community goes hungry.”

The latest research report shows that 90 per cent of Geelong food relief agencies have experienced service demand growth over the past year, and 63 per cent of agencies report that clients’ needs have become more complex.

Key drivers of food insecurity include cost of living pressures, low income, unemployment, reliance on government benefits, and families dependent on single income.

“Having access to an adequate supply of nutritious food is a human right. It doesn’t matter where you are. As a developed, prosperous city, we should all be working to change the food insecurity in our region to make sure no one in our community is left behind,” Mr. Mithen said.

“We’re encouraging the community to get behind this year’s Feed Geelong Appeal as whatever you give will help us to fight hunger in our community.”

“I’d like to thank all of our Appeal Partners including Times News Group, Goop Digital, The Gordon, GSC Finance, Rex Gorell Ford, Australian Tyre Traders, Associated Cold Tread Tyres, and Bay 93.9 and K Rock 95.5 for helping fight hunger in our community.”
