CORANGAMITE federal member Sarah Henderson has met local residents about road safety issues in Barwon Heads and Armstrong Creek over the past week.

On Tuesday morning she visited a crossing near Armstrong Creek Primary School to call on Premier Daniel Andrews to act urgently to appoint supervision at the school crossing.

She said she had been contacted by frustrated parents whose calls for action had not been addressed.

“The school crossing in front of the Armstrong Creek Primary School is not currently marked or supervised, creating a risk to the safety of children.

“As a matter of urgency, state Labor and Premier Daniel Andrews needs to act to appoint supervision for the crossing at peak school traffic times and improve the signage at the crossing.”

Meanwhile, last Friday night, Ms Henderson met with concerned community members about the dangerous crossing at the intersection of Barwon Heads Road and Tomara Drive, at the entrance to 13th Beach Golf Links Estate.

She said the intersection was risking the lives of school children and parentsm. She said that two young children had been injured in an accident at the intersection.

The intersection is near a bus stop where parents drop children to catch school buses.

She said “as a matter of urgency” the speed limit for the stretch of road needed to be dropped from the present limit of 100kmh to 80kmh.

“The state government also needs to consider a proper traffic management solution, such as traffic lights, or a roundabout. Local residents are also finding it very difficult to exit the estate in their cars.”

Ms Henderson will be joining parents and families at a rally on Mother’s Day this Sunday at 11am at the entrance to 13th Beach Golf Links Estate.
