Historic pub to celebrate birthday
THE Barwon Hotel in Winchelsea will notch up its 183rd birthday tomorrow (Sunday January 18).
The rich history of the Main Street establishment will be celebrated with family friendly activities, live music and a spit roast.
A petting zoo, sprint cars and jumping castle will be on offer for the children, while adults are encouraged to enjoy the wide range of food options and a cold beverage.
There are also plans to have some old tractors and trucks down on site for the community to explore.
Venue licensee Peter Arsenijevic said it was time for the people of Winchelsea and the wider community to celebrate what he described as the third-oldest pub in Victoria.
“Winchelsea is a growing town and there’s lots of new people. This gives us a great chance to get the history out there about this great place.
“We took the pub over 18 months ago and we’ve renovated it, redone the bar and made some more changes to give it character again.
“When we took it on we were told the place was haunted with ghosts, but we believe there’s no ghosts; just good spirits!”
The festivities will begin from 10am, with everyone welcome.
