THE Sands Resort in Torquay has 112 rooms to refurbish as a part of the hotel’s recent renovations, which means there is an abundance of furniture that needs to find a new home.

To avoid sending their old furniture to the tip, The Sands are accepting note donations per item for hundreds of pieces of furniture.

The funds acquired from people looking to take the furniture off the hotel’s hands will go directly to local charities and sporting clubs across the region, as the Torquay-based resort looks to give back to the community.

Representative of The Sands, Kerstin Grant, said the hotel would accept any kind of note for the pieces of furniture, whether its $100 or $5.

“We are not putting a figure on it, so people can give what they can give,” Ms Grant said.

“We don’t want the furniture to end up in landfill, the pieces are of good quality, and we thought this was a good way to actually to do two things at once, as well as allowing us to get rid of some of the furniture.”

Pieces of furniture that are on offer include dining tables, chairs, coffee tables, couches and more.

Ms Grant also said this is the first time the hotel has done something like this, but it falls within The Sands’ philosophy of being a place for the community.

“The market in second-hand furniture isn’t necessarily huge, but the concept of taking a note donation for the furniture and then giving it to local organisations is something we fully support,” said Ms Grant.

The Sands renovation clearance will commence from Thursday, August 19 from 7am until 3pm.

People wishing to take furniture will need to enter in from the balcony entrance.
