Indulge in a wine for cancer research

February 13, 2019 BY

Fundraising team Birds of a Feather have so far raised over $3,000 for this year’s Surf Coast Relay for Life.

IN SUPPORT of this year’s Surf Coast Relay for Life, fundraising team “Birds of a Feather” will host a wine-tasting on Tuesday February 19 to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Scheduled for the Torquay Bowls Club from 5.30pm, Birds of a Feather team leader Helen Forrest said this year’s wine tasting had been inspired by the success of one held last year.

“We are determined to raise as much money as we can in the battle against cancer, a most insidious disease,” she said.

Entry to the event is $15, with tastings of various wines and light refreshments included.

With raffles, door prizes and a silent auction scheduled for the night’s entertainment, Birds of a Feather are hoping to once again raise significant funds for the Victorian Cancer Council having participated most years the Surf Coast Relay for Life has been held.

“The team formed in 2011, and despite a brief respite from the fundraising event, it has raised more than $50,000 for the Victorian Cancer Council,” Ms Forrest said.

“This year we are aiming to raise as much as we possibly can as far too often we are touched by cancer either in our own families or in friends.

“It is heartrending for those associated with the disease, but we will continue to work hard to raise funds for the Cancer Council which is heavily involved in education, research and support for other organisations joined in the same fight.”

Surf Coast Relay for Life 2019 is raising funds in preparation for the Relay for Life activities at Polwarth Oval, Merrijig Drive, North Torquay on March 15/16.

“Even though Birds of a Feather have started on their fundraising, I challenge local Torquay organisations, including service clubs, sporting clubs and businesses to enter a team in the event and join us in this fight against cancer,” Ms Forrest said.
